As a Child:
- I dreamed I was a princess who had been stolen at birth. Reality said I was a small-town minister’s daughter with strict but loving parents.
- I pretended that I was part of a circus family and performed with amazing skill. But my trapeze was a cherry tree and my horse was a pair of roller skates.
- I wanted to be beautiful and popular but had to settle for being a good student—and even there I measured myself against my brothers and lost.
- I believed that books were the entrance to an enchanted world—and I was right.
As an Adult:
- I dream I will write the great American novel and make the New York Times bestseller list. Reality says to keep plugging away and one day my dream may come true.
- I pretend that I am all sorts of people who never existed. But they become real when I put them on paper.
- I want to be grown-up and intelligent and still read children’s books—and I am succeeding.
- I believe that books are the entrance to an enchanted world—and I’m still right.
More About Me:
- I am a wife, mother, writer, speaker, and retired attorney.
- I am the author of two nonfiction books for adults, four middle-grade historical novels, and numerous articles.
- I enjoy reading, photography, travel, and music.
- I live in Indiana with my husband of forty-five years, and we have two grown children.
Since every bullet starts with “I,” you may assume that I think I’m the center of the universe. That’s presumptuous of you. The title of this page is “About Me,” so who did you expect me to talk about? Jane Austin? Mark Twain? Julius Caesar? :)
Actually, God comes first in my life and my family comes second, so maybe this page is a little misleading. But if I had started with God, would you have read on? (Well, some of you would have.)
I will end with God, though. Whether I write for a Christian or a secular audience, whether I mention God explicitly or just think about Him, I write for His glory.
My Theme Verse Says it All:
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
